I use this knowledge to inform how I treat and communicate with clients. In Alignment Therapy, the intention is to connect the person back to their internal energy resources. When we are physically, energetically and spiritually out of alignment, our ability to access these energy resources is diminished and we lose connection and containment.
The journey through all the chakras is about connecting to our humanity and awakening to our divinity; bridging these two polarities and manifesting Divine Love through our Heart Space. The chakras are the stepping stones to this awakening!
Establishing Your Sacred Ground - 1st Chakra
Location: Base of the spine (coccyx)
Central Focus: Survival
Intention: Stability & Security
Basic Right: To Be, Exist, Receive Abundance & Be Healthy
Main Obstacle: Fear
Element: Earth
Key Points:
- Only as deep as our energetic roots are, is as high as we can reach (connect to Source).
- The physical body is the container for our life force.
- It is essential to establish a sense of safety and learn to charge and discharge energy.
- This chakra is the manifestation of full immanence.
Managing Your Emotional Flow - 2nd Chakra
Location: Low abdomen/back
Central Focus: Emotions & Sexuality
Intention: Healthy Sexuality & Emotional Intelligence
Basic Right: To have: feelings, wants & desires
Main Obstacle: Guilt
Element: Water
Key Points:
- The 2nd chakra is all about sensing; the more we can sense the more embodied we are.
- The 2nd chakra’s job is to get us moving (lifeforce energy); desires are the fuel for movement.
- Deficient: emotional numbness needs to experience more sensations.
- Excessive: too much emotion needs more containment for charge to move up instead of leak out and become depleted.
Energizing & Reclaiming Your Power - 3rd Chakra
Location: Solar plexus
Central Focus: Power & Will
Intention: Self-worth & Purpose
Basic Right: To Act
Main Obstacle: Shame
Element: Fire
Key Points:
- The 3rd chakra is all about Free Will! Will is a combination of intention and energy.
- To strengthen this chakra: Set intentions and then move towards them (empowerment!)
- Change your language from: ‘I have to’ to ‘I chose to’. This creates a charge of energy that will ignite one’s energy vs create a sense of obligation; which causes depletion/drain of energy.
- Goal is to hold your power well, without dominating.
- To mobilize a deficient Will: just do something, anything to generate momentum!
Softening Your Heart for Love & Connection - 4th Chakra
Location: Heart Space
Central Focus: Love & Connection
Intention: Balance, Compassion & Healthy Relatonships
Basic Right: To Love & Be loved
Main Obstacle: Grief
Element: Sound
Key Points:
- The heart chakra is the meeting place between the upper and lower chakras; joins polarities: heaven & earth, humanity & divinity, masculine and feminine, light & shadow, etc.
- To heal the heart chakra is to integrate all life’s polarities.
- Healing is to Make Whole; bringing things back into One.
Voicing Your Truth - 5th Chakra
Location: Throat
Central Focus: Communication
Intention: Clear & Authentic Expression
Basic Right: To Speak & Be Heard
Main Obstacle: Inuathenticity
Element: Sound
Key Points:
- Everything is a vibration and the goal of this chakra is to create resonance and harmony with our surroundings and within.
- Listen twice as much as we speak. “Let the words you speak be worthy of the silence broken.”
- Throat chakra is one of the main ways to discharge energy; why we feel so much better getting things “off our chest”.
- Truth and sound purifies. Journal as a way to explore core truth and discharge thoughts/energy. Humming, chanting, singing to discharge and create resonance.
Finding Clarity - 6th Chakra
Location: 3rd Eye
Central Focus: Imagination & Intuition
Intention: Visualization & Clairvoyance
Basic Right: To See
Main Obstacle: Illusion
Element: Light
Key Points:
- 90% of the information we receive comes through our eyes/sight. Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
- This chakra is beyond space and time.
- Where our attention (drishti) and focus is, is what we see. Therefore, shift your attention to what IS working vs. what isn’t (essential component for Transformation).
- In order to fully see clearly, one must observe without value judgements.
- Base/earth chakras are about dualities and they merge and refine as energy/consciousness moves up the chakras into nonduality.
- Whatever we focus on we get more of. What we imagine moves us forward.
- Let your intention be more than a statement; let it be an image; see it in your mind’s eye.
- Listening to your intuition and following it will strengthen this chakra.
- This chakra is all about beauty.
- Intuition feels clear and like a ‘yes’ where illusions don't fully align nor have a sense of clarity.
Connection to the Divine - 7th Chakra
Location: Crown of Head
Central Focus: Awareness
Intention: Wisdom, Consciousness, Spiritual Connection
Basic Right: To Know
Main Obstacle: Attachment
Element: Consciousness
Key Points:
- Quieting our minds allows us to see the larger cosmos.
- Meditation allows us to achieve stillness, to touch into a state of beingness; which brings deep connection and renewal (spiritual nourishment).
- Non-dual consciousness happens in this chakra. The goal is not to live in the place but to touch into this nectar of Oneness.
- 1,000 petals represents this chakra. The nectar drips down from the crown chakra to fill up each chakra with grace.
- You download what you point your “browser” to. In meditation, sit with a question and don’t expect an answer right away. Allow time for the full awareness to be achieved.
- Transcendence and immanence are two aspects of the divine. Transcendence is the current running up the chakras (masculine aspect of the divine). Immanence is feminine aspect of the divine and imminently dwelling in you as the divine. Immanence is the creation of everything.
- Immanence is full where transcendence is light (mas/fem, dark/light).
- The 1st chakra is the full manifestation of the immanence and the 7th chakra is the full emptiness of the transcendence. The chakras run between immanence and transcendence. We are both God/Goddess, Divine Mother/Divine Father, Emptiness/Fullness.
- Divine Heritage: right hand reaching up and left hand reading down; “I am a combination of my divine father (up) and divine mother (down). These are my true parents and forgive your mortal parents. I am a divine child, finding my way back to my divine identity. That’s the path of the chakras…to find this truth and bring it back down to the world. Namaste’
